Joelle Banford is from Salt Lake City Utah where she trained as a young dancer under the direction of Penny Broussard at The Winner School. She was a 3 year member and captain of her high school drill team. She was awarded dance and academic scholarships in college and then graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Utah Valley University. Early in her career she traveled as an instructor with USA (United Spirit Association), teaching dance teams and leadership camps throughout the United States. She has instructed dancers of all ages at several studios, schools and universities for nearly 2 decades and is currently the competition director at Synergy Academy in Utah.
Joelle had the incredible opportunity to assist Monica Campbell in teaching, “Diavolo Dance Company Techniques” to University students. Having this experience sparked a passion for choreographing with a focus on sets and structures.
Her choreography has received numerous top awards at local and national competitions, including “Top Convention,” “Best Direction,” “Best Choreography” and “Peoples Choice”.
Joelle has worked with the best on several occasions. She assisted Shannon Mortensen to lead the Copper Hills Drill Team to win several consecutive State titles. She is currently providing specialty technique instruction to the UVU Dance Team. She has also taught technique workshops and choreographed for the BYU Cougarettes 70th anniversary concert.
Joelle has a true passion for developing the “whole” dancer. Her specialized technique classes not only focus on proper turn or leap technique, but also building deeper body awareness and powerful mind/body connections. She is currently working with the renowned, DANCE LABS, creating online training courses for dancers.
